Goofy Portraits with my Mom and Dad

My parents were making a roadtrip from Pennsylvania (Yinz-country) to Florida. On their way south, they made a pit-stop and stayed here in D.C. for a couple days to break up their long journey. One night during their visit, I thought it would be fun to set up a couple lights and get them in front of the camera. I just wasn’t prepared for how much fun that would be.

For those of you that don’t know him, my dad is a complete goofball. He’s the one in the family that embarrasses us out in public (but in a good way, of course). My initial idea for this quick portrait session was simply that, goofy. Before even having to ask my dad to act goofy, or like himself for that, he threw out the face you see above. Funny thing is, it’s my most favorite shot of his series. I only shot for maybe 2-3 minutes because we already had a wealth of great expressions.

Next up, my mom. Oh mother. I already told you how my dad embarrasses us all out in public. Well, my mom is the one that is yelling at him in public to act normal, haha! Don’t get me wrong, my mom loves to have fun and deep down, she’s probably laughing with us all as my dad is doing something silly. It took a little bit of convincing, but she started with her funny expressions and they only got better. Another 2-3 minutes and we were all laughing it up.

Overall, it was a nice change of pace from the more serious looking work that I usually produce. We all had a great time, and of course, my dad just loves how the shots turned out. My mom told me I better not put hers on the internet, but they’re just too good not to share with you all. Besides, I’m her favorite son which gives me the “Get out of jail, free” card.
