Photographing Anthony Woods

In 2009, my friend Anthony Woods decided to run for Congress in a special election to fill a vacant seat after Rep. Ellen Tauscher became Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. Without a proper portrait, Anthony asked if I would be willing to photograph his official portrait for the campaign.

Five years later, I realized I was still showing the portrait on my site, and he was still using it as well. It’s not that the portrait was horrible or anything, but styles change. Both in clothing and photography. I got in touch with Anthony and asked if he would be interested in updating his portrait. He laughed and said he was actually thinking the same thing a few days earlier and how important updating your headshot is, so we started planning.

Like the corporate shoot with my model friend Ryann, this was another opportunity for me to continue rebuilding my corporate portfolio. In addition to being able to shoot the portraits in my own personal style, I got to work in a great location. Mixing Anthony’s style and well cut suit with the rough environment makes for a nice contrast and adds a little something different to the corporate portrait. If the location looks familiar, that’s because it’s where I photographed my friend Skyler Javier of Native Danger who was gracious enough to let us shoot there.
